What specifically makes a high-definition camera high-def?

I’ve been reading that an HD lens can give you true HD, is this true? I’m working with a Canon zr600 camcorder, and would like to tape in HD, but can’t afford to spend alot to upgrade right now- Any suggestions?

For what they call fullhd you need to capture at least 720 lines say 1280×720 for hd you need 1920×1080 pixels.
For what they call fullhd you need 1920×1080 pixels.
