Ok first of all i would like to mention i am not a total noob i actually do research on stuff like this but i still need oppinions though,
(my needs : pc conection for editing and also making transfers to dvd and vhs)
ok .. here goes.

Mini dv which are digital i heard are really good which replaced old analog vhs-c which i currently own but its really hard to upload to pc. anyways mini dv’s are still popular i belive sony took one out that records high def which i am not interested in yet.

ok now alos mind dvd recoreds are ok and hard drive seem cool too..

what do u reccomed that i could go straght to my vcr using component cable (yellow red white) from camcorder.

u recomend
mini dv
dvd
harddrive
? please help and give me ur opinions i am looking foward to hard drive or mini dv the most.
i am mostly afraid of mini dv going out of business like poor vhs-c and hi8 and all those analog ones did….
well at least i know minidv are digtal and are great for editing since file are comp

I’m looking into purchasing a digital camcorder and I noticed that the optical zoom on standard def camcorders goes up to 40x, whereas high def camcorders only have 10x optical zoom. Why is this?

note: I’m aware that they also have the digital zoom, but there is a generally a loss in picture quality when digital zoom is used.

Ok guys, I really need some “specific” advice. I own a website that takes pictures and videos in nightclub environments and I have been starting to put more videos on the website. i eventually convert the video from whatever source to flash video and stream it on the site. i have been recently just using my point and shoot digital snapshot camera that has the video feature ( 640 by 480) to take the clips but OBVIOUSLY the video is horrible and the sound is even worse. what i really need is a small camcorder.
basically after i shoot the videos, i will have to transfer them to my pc and then ill eventually encode them to flash.

what is the best camera format for this need. mini dv? harddrive type? etc. i basically need a small camcorder that shoots great video and audio ( good with lo light) and is not killer expensive with the best format for editing later.. any specific models come to mind? also, do I really need HIGH-Def?

if i do not have a high def tv, why should i buy a high def camcorder? what do users of HD camcorders have to say about their ease of use, editing, media used, etc.?

do all digital camcorders have this CCD thing? what does it mean as opposed to whatever else there is out there? what other than the CCD thingie is in digital camcorders?

what media do you really like and why? hi-8, 8mm, dvd, hard drive? is a hard drive media the same as having a memory card/stick in a digital camera, that downloads to your hard drive? what else would a digital camcorder’s having a hard drive mean?

which digital camcorders have the best automatic settings for, especially, zooming really close into flowers/taking movies of insects? as well as other automatic settings like for distance (”mountains”), portraits, action, normal?

that is optical zoom opposed to digital zoom? what meaning does each one have?

what about sound? what types of sound capabilities should i look for?
